bwGRiD: Baden-Wuerttemberg GRiD
The Baden-Wuerttemberg GRiD (bwGRiD) is part of the D-Grid initiative and provides more than 11.000 cores installed at 8 universities and institutions within Baden-Wuerttemberg. The main aim of the Grid is to provide extensive computational power for scientific research.
The bwGRiD-Cluster Freiburg is part of the bwGRiD and consists of 140 HS21-Blades by IBM. Each blade has two quad-core CPUs (2.8GHz), 16GB RAM and 146GB of disk space. The blades are connected with Gigabit Ethernet and Infiniband. The operating system is Scientific Linux 5.5 (64bit). The workload management and scheduling engine is MOAB and the resource manager is TORQUE.
Every scientifically interessted person which studies or works in one of the participating universities in Baden-Wuerttemberg can use the resources. You only have to become a member of the Virtual Organization (VO) bwGRiD (see Documentation: Login to bwGRiD Freiburg). BFG users can use these resources without any special application as well.

bwGRiD Portal, an easy way to access the Grid!
- Simplifying access to the bwGRiD resources is the aim of the bwGRiD portal project. Especially the quite complicated access via the console should be substituted by a Internet portal. Also monitoring and organizing of the jobs and the data respectively, should be simplified. Application based portlets will be provided for upload and downloading data, job submission and job monitoring.

Obtain or renew a DFN Grid certificate and the VO bwgrid membership
- In order to access the Grid system you have to be a member of a university situated in Baden-Wuerttemberg. If so you may apply for a so called „DFN Grid user certificate“ and for a membership of the virtual organization (VO) bwGRID, both of which are required to proof your authorization when accessing the Grid system. The following documents describes the procedure how you obtain the personal certificate and become a member of the VO.
